On 29 July the NOC of Lithuania at an official special ceremony presented the 2010 IOC Trophy "Sport - inspiring young people" to weightlifting top level coach Bronislavas VYSNIAUSKAS. The trophy was awarded in recognition of the effort and hard work of this coach who is a role model and inspiration to young people. He has established weightlifting training centre for the young Lithuanian hopefuls (from 12 to 20) giving them possibility to develop their skills and integrity.

Thursday, 8th July Lithuanian NOC President received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China, Mingtao TONG. Conversation centered on the principle planning of collaboration towards developing relationships as regards physical culture and sports. Also discussed was the upcoming visit of a delegation composed of sports leaders from the Chinese Olympic Committee and the General Administration of Sport of the People's Republic of China. The Ambassador made an inscription in the Honourable Guests Book.

Also present at the meeting were Vytautas Zubernis, LNOC Secretary General and Gvidas Kerusauskas, LNOC representative in China.

On Tuesday 29th June, Lithuanian NOC President Arturas Poviliunas received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia, George Kerdikoshvili. At the centre of discussions were the issues of developing relationships between the NOC of Georgia and the LNOC; also discussed were other specific initiatives of collaboration including the Georgia's bid to stage the 2nd Youth Olympic Games. The Lithuanian leaders received an invitation to pay a visit to Georgian Olympic Committee.

Also present at the meeting were Vytautas Zubernis, LNOC Secretary General and Bronius Cekanauskas, Head of Media Operations.

Record number of people take part in Olympic Day Run

A traditional race organised on the occasion of the Olympic Day at Vilnius Vingis Stadium on 19 June attracted a record number of running amateurs (1,236 people). The winners of the V Olympic Festival of Lithuanian Schoolchildren were awarded and congratulated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite. The President also presented a cup of the winners of a Sport and Environment competition.

YOUNG ARTISTS AWARDED

On 1 June, the International Children's Day, a ceremony to award the laureates of the Lithuanian schoolchildren picture contest PAINTING SPORTS took place at the headquarters of the LNOC. President of the LNOC Arturas Poviliunas presented prizes, medals and diplomas to the winners in three age groups. A total of 1,253 pictures have been submitted by pupils for the contest.

Lithuanian Olympic Education Seminars

The Lithuanian NOC held seminars on the promotion of educational values at school. Organised on the initiative of the NOC Department for Olympic Education and its director Algimantas Gudiskis and financially supported by IOC Olympic Solidarity and Promotion Programme, the Seminar in Palanga (22nd - 23rd April) hosted over 60 participants who discussed at length about Olympic educational programmes and their implementation at school.

OLYMPIC SPORT AND LITERATURE COMPETITION LAUREATES AWARDED

On 20 April in the headquarters of the Lithuanian NOC were honoured school students- participants of Olympic Sport and Literature Competition for the third time launched by the International Olympic Committee and its Commission for Culture and Olympic Education.

Two Lithuanian schoolchildren became the first place winners, one in category under 12 years old  and another in category 2, and that was 18 years old graduate from principal school in Alytus city; IOC prizes and diplomas for them were presented by LNOC president Arturas Poviliunas.

Dear Mr. Krzesinski,

The National Olympic Committee and the whole Lithuanian Sports Community are horrified by the terrible catastrophe caused by the crash of aeroplane which was carrying President of Poland Lech Kaczynski and his entourage to Katyn to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1940 execution of 22,000 Poles.

Polish Olympic Committee President Piotr Nurowski has also become the victim of this tragedy.

DONATION OF SPORTS COMMUNITY MARKING LITHUANIA'S 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE

On 10 March,  in the premises of the Lithuanian Department for Physical Education and Sports (DPES), the Lithuanian Sports Community has celebrated the official launch of the first volume of Lithuania's sports encyclopaedai. Organised on the initiative and fully financed by DPES, it was collected and issued by the Lithuanian sports information centre.
