Lithuania in the Olympic Festival
The Lithuanians were very successful at the Paris Olympic Festival. The country’s team consisted of 56 athletes who competed in track and field athletics, judo, basketball, table tennis, cycling, swimming, and gymnastics events. They won 8 medals.
Gold medals were won by sprinter Lina Grinčikaitė (100 m), table tennis player Lina Misikonytė, and judoka Alius Bračiulis.
Shot putter Alina Vaišvilaitė won silver.
The bearer of the Lithuanian national flag at the Opening ceremony shot putter Vidas Klibavičius and three judokas Raimonda Gedutytė, Justinas Gramba, and Karolis Bauža won bronze.
Lithuanian women’s basketball team coached by Stasys Žaliabarštis won 4th place. Runner Vitalijus Kozlovas was 4th in the 800 m race and Vitalijus Gorbunovas was 6th in the 1500 m race. Swimmer Aurimas Valaitis was 6th in the 200 breaststroke event.
Among the festival’s participants also was cyclist Ramūnas Navardauskas who later participated in London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. He placed 8th in the team race event and 16th in the individual race.
