LTeam Winter Festival Will Get Druskininkai Moving: Free Events, Sports Competitions and GJan Concert

2023-01-24

The LTeam Winter Festival 2023 returns to Druskininkai! The annual winter sports and entertainment festival for the whole family invites you to celebrate its remarkable 10th anniversary! It will take place on 10-11 February 2023 at the Snow Arena, which, for a couple of days, will traditionally turn into a centre of attraction for active leisure activities.

Over 30 free activities, the opportunity to try out different winter sports and events, various competitions, tournaments, activities for children, a film screening and a concert, surprises and presents for everyone! And this is only part of what the annual event organised by the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania (LNOC) and the Lithuanian Olympic Fund (LOF) offers as an experience.

“We are continuing our traditions and we are delighted that the annual LTeam winter sports and entertainment festival is celebrating this beautiful anniversary. The event, which has been organised since 2014, has grown over the past 10 years into an active, winter sports-loving community, whose members, having participated in the festival once, eagerly return to discover new sports events,” says Daina Gudzinevičiūtė, President of the LNOC and Olympic champion.

The two-day festival will offer plenty of activities. “The LTeam Winter Festival 2023 will start in the evening of 10 February, therefore participants are invited to arrive in Druskininkai as early as Friday. As a kick off, the opening of the festival will feature the LTeam Night Sprint event: the running race will start after dark, participants will compete on a 3 km course winding through forest paths and asphalt pavement, with the last few hundred metres of the course being a more strenuous uphill race ‒ the finish is at the top of the Snow Arena outdoor ski slope!

Immediately afterwards, festival participants will be invited to warm up and spend a cosy evening watching a movie ‒ an exclusive, free sports film screening will be held inside the arena.

Saturday, 11 February, will be a much more intense day ‒ it is the main day of the festival, full of action from early morning till night. More than 30 free activities will take place at the Snow Arena, and participants will be able to try out different winter sports and competitions for themselves, and to talk to professionals, well-known athletes and Olympians in their fields.

“The festival encourages not only to get more involved in activities, but also to get a better understanding of the Olympic sport and Olympic values ‒ the event will be attended by sports federations, which will present a wide variety of sports and will allow people to try them out. We aim to get the society moving, to show that sport and an active lifestyle bring a lot of joy, when one chooses an appealing activity,” said Daina Gudzinevičiūtė.

The LTeam Winter Festival 2023 will provide an opportunity to experience speed skating, rugby, orienteering, floor hockey, floor curling, Bavarian stone skating, motor tricycles and many other events.

Each participant will receive a participant passport ‒ after completing various activities and tasks, they will accumulate points to be later exchanged for LTeam and sponsor prizes, medals, souvenirs and gifts.

In addition to free sports and entertainment activities, the LTeam Winter Festival 2023 will also feature various events and competitions, and the traditional much-loved sports mascot competition.

Saturday morning will start with a running race: 500 metre-course for children and Lithuanian Olympic Mile of 1988 metres – the length of this course symbolises the date of the restoration of the LNOC. Those with more stamina will have an opportunity to try the 5- and 10-kilometre cross-country courses.

Orienteering fans will traditionally compete in the LTeam Rogaining 2023 competition, where both runners and cyclists are welcome. Depending on the preparation, 2 and 4 hour time limit courses are planned.

There will also be plenty of activities for those who haven’t yet mastered running but would love to walk the most beautiful trails in Druskininkai, with a 5 and 10 kilometre LTeam hike, and a tournament of an LTeam game called cornhole.

“Throughout the whole day, the Snow Arena will host the Baltic Cup 2023 acrobatic skiing and snowboarding competitions followed by the awards ceremony, and the festival will culminate in a free GJan concert and night skiing with DJ.

It is the sixth time that the LTeam Winter Festival (from 10 to 11 February 2023) will be taking place in Druskininkai. For more information please visit here and LTeam on Facebook.
