ISRAEL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE PRESIDENT IN LITHUANIA

On  2 - 5 September  2009, Mr. Zvi  VARSHAVIAK, president of the  ISRAEL Olympic Committee payed a visit to Lithuania together with his spouse  Hana VARSHAVIAK. The guest visited  the LNOC headquarters in Vilnius. At the centre of discussions were sport and present-day works and plans for the future in the framework of  one year ago signatured cooperation agreement  between the two NOC's.

LITHUANIAN DELEGATION RETURNED FROM X EYOF IN TAMPERE

On July 24th, a hearty welcome was extended to young athletes, who returned to Vilnius by charter flight from Finland . Male basketballers, aged 16, became gold medal winners, silver medal  went to swimmer  Giedre Grigonyte and also to judoist  Zilvinas Lekavicius, captain of judo selection.

The young summer sports legends were cordially greeted by LNOC president Arturas Poviliunas and  secretary General Vytautas Zubernis, also leaders of sport federations, family members, relatives..

Two Festivities at one time

On June 20 (Saturday) in park and stadium „Vingis", traditional events dedicated to the International Olympic Day took place in Lithuania. It was a great Olympic Day as it also embraced another magnificent event, closure ceremony of the IV Lithuanian Schoolchildren Olympic Festival.

85 YEARS OF OLYMPIC HISTORY

To commemorate the 85th anniversary of Lithuania's Olympic history, on 2 June 2009, in the premises of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee, the exhibition was opened which brought together journalists, historians and sports workers.

Lithuanian athletes made their debut in 1924 at the VIII Olympic Games in Paris, where the country was represented by 13 athletes.

The Avenue of fame for the Lithuanian Olympic Champions

In honor of the Olympic spirit, the festive Opening Ceremony of the Avenue of Fame was held on 21st of May 2009. 25 stunning stands with the pictures of the Lithuanian Olympic Champions

of all times, since 1924, were on display on the grounds of Siemens Sports Arena in Vilnius.

On Wednesday, 29th April 2009, Izumi Seki, Counsellor , and Haru Tsunashima , Second Secretary from the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Lithuania visited the LNOC quarters in Vilnius, for discussion with the Lithuanian NOC President Arturas Poviliunas and Secretary General Vytautas Zubernis. At the centre of discussions were sport and cultural cooperation, present-day works and plans for the future in the framework of signatured a cooperation agreement between the Japanese and Lithuanian Olympic Committees.

On 16 April in Moscow, in the headquarters of the Russian Olympic Committee, the president of the Russian OC, Leonid Tyagachev and Arturas Poviliunas, the LNOC president (see photo), signed a bilateral agreement between their two organizations.

On the 5th April 2009, the final day of the European Wrestling Championships in Vilnius, Raphael MARTINETTI, president of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA), has received the highest award of the Lithuanian NOC , Olympic Order of merit (Olympic Star).

On Thursday, 2nd April 2009, Lithuanian NOC president Arturas Poviliunas received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Chkhikvadze accompanied by Counsellor Alexey M.Klim and Valerij Shteinbach, guest from Moscow, famous Russian journalist and writer, professor, director general of Publishing House „Olimpija".

On the occasion of the European Wrestling Championships on 2nd of April in Vilnius, Lithuanian NOC president Arturas Poviliunas received Secretary General of Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Belcho Goranov, who is also Deputy Director of FILA Legislative Department.
