YOUNG ARTISTS AWARDED
On 1 June, the International Children's Day, a ceremony to award the laureates of the Lithuanian schoolchildren picture contest PAINTING SPORTS took place at the headquarters of the LNOC. President of the LNOC Arturas Poviliunas presented prizes, medals and diplomas to the winners in three age groups. A total of 1,253 pictures have been submitted by pupils for the contest.
A.Poviliunas and A.Deltuva from Prienai
"Those who do sports paint sports best," said Poviliunas. Yet the "real" athletes were few among the young artists, probably the most famous of them being the fourteen-year-old Arnas Deltuva from Revuona secondary school of Prienai, who often wins national orienteering tournaments in his own age group. The panel awarded first place to his picture in the group of children aged 12-15. In the youngest age group (children aged 7-11), Gabriele Bauzaite from gymnasium of Kaltinenai was the first-place winner, and Monika Jasnauskaite from Minties gymnasium of Panevezys placed first in the oldest age group of children aged 16 and above. The LNOC has plans to print a calendar featuring pictures by the laureates of the contest for the year 2011.
The contest winners were awarded and congratulated by Director of the Lithuanian Pupil and Student Sports Centre Ona Baboniene, President of the Olympic Academy Povilas Karoblis and others.
