The Avenue of fame for the Lithuanian Olympic Champions

In honor of the Olympic spirit, the festive Opening Ceremony of the Avenue of Fame was held on 21st of May 2009. 25 stunning stands with the pictures of the Lithuanian Olympic Champions

of all times, since 1924, were on display on the grounds of Siemens Sports Arena in Vilnius.

Those attending the ceremony included nine Olympic Champions : Vladislavas Cesiunas, Daina Gudzineviciute, Lina Kaciusyte, Modestas Paulauskas, Angele Rupsiene, Romas Ubartas, Remigijus Valiulis, Vida Venciene and Robertas Zulpa.

Exhibition -strip was cut by Valdas Adamkus, president of Lithuania, Arturas Poviliunas, president of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee, Vilius Navickas, the mayor of Vilnius city and president of the Lithuanian Olympians Association, Eugenijus Levickas.

In the presence of numerous guests and sports leaders, young Olympians and journalists, NOC president Arturas Poviliunas notified the importance of this avenue for the young generation, by saying: „this interactive ehxibit will present a unique opportunity for the Lithuanian youngsters to push themselves to new heights in their pursuit for excellence".

The champions each received the commemorative plaque with their picture from the stand.
