In January, the Honour diploma of the International Fair Play Committee was awarded to the first Lithuanian representative, boxer Algirdas Šocikas, honour member of the LNOC, in Stuttgart, Germany. While the Lithuanian men's basketball team won a silver medal at the European Championships in Athens and the first Olympic pass to the Atlanta Games.

In track and field, sprinter Agnė Visockaitė, 100m, and runner Mindaugas Pukštas, 200m steeplechase, became champions at the European Youth Olympic Days, in Bath, England.

LNOC President, Artūras Poviliūnas, was elected EOC Executive Committee Member at the EOC General Assembly held in Athens. And in cycling, the world vice-champion Remigijus Lupeikis, from the coastal city of Klaipėda, was awarded with the sculpture The Archer, by S. Kuzma, for being named best athlete of the year. Also, many contracts were signed, 25 in all, with sponsors of the LNOC. Among them were the Lietuva and Karolina hotels; national and international companies such as Berlin-Chemie, Comliet, Reebok, Coca-Cola, Lithuanian Airlines, and others.
